At Shell Pernis, Shell Moerdijk has now also transformed its Safety Center into an Experience Center. To stay at the forefront of safety, the existing safety training center in Moerdijk has undergone a transformation, incorporating innovative learning methods and more realistic simulations of real-life scenarios. Nsecure plays a key role in achieving ‘Goal Zero’—a zero-incident environment where controlled access based on the appropriate qualifications is a critical factor.

Safety is top priority

Safety is a critical requirement at Shell Moerdijk: you work safely, or you don’t work at all. The new Safety Center was established through collaboration with various contractors who are regularly present on the Shell Moerdijk site. The mandatory safety training for everyone working on the Shell Moerdijk site has now become the best-in-class when it comes to safety, building on the 2019 transformation at Shell Pernis.

Specific training programs have been developed for Shell locations, tailored to the different roles and functions of Shell employees and contractors. For example, a groundworker learns different safety aspects than an electrician. E-learning is accessed via tablets, phones, or computers, making learning not only easier but also more engaging for participants.

An Incident-Free Environment Through Identity Management

Nsecure plays a crucial role in this with its identity management platform, built on over 27 years of expertise in safety and IT. The platform offers the perfect balance between access provision and security while ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.

When contractors or subcontractors perform tasks, or suppliers enter a site or company location(s), specific information is requested depending on nationality and the type of work. This may include documents and certificates related to legal employment or safety (VCA). All documents and certificates required for performing tasks are stored in a digital dossier. Expiry dates are monitored, and automatic notifications are sent to keep dossiers up-to-date and valid for future visits.

This approach helps organizations mitigate risks related to safety, illegality, labor law, or taxation. Additionally, the e-learning module enhances the knowledge level of employees and contractors, fosters a culture of safety, and contributes to creating an incident-free work environment.

Experience the Shell Experience Center in 5 Steps

The concept behind the Shell Experience Center is straightforward: realistic scenarios and engaging learning methods make theoretical and practical training much more effective compared to the “dry” and labor-intensive safety training previously provided. Employees and contractors undergo the following steps during safety training:

1. Registration
   Participants register in advance. Based on their role and tasks, they follow specific e-learning modules via tablet, phone, or computer.
2. Safety Scenarios
   Depending on their role and tasks, participants (individually or in groups) use a personal QR code to navigate a route featuring several safety scenarios within the Shell Experience Center.
3. Examination
   After completing the online e-learning and the Experience Center route, participants take an exam via tablet on-site.
4. Certification
   Successfully completing the exam and scenarios? Participants are officially certified. Their results are linked to a personal dossier and access pass, granting them access to specific work locations.
5. Outcome
   Controlled access to sites is ensured based on the right qualifications. When the validity of a training certificate expires, participants automatically receive a notification to retake the exam.
