Safety and Efficiency for Team Terminal

Team Terminal is one of the largest oil storage and transshipment companies in the Rotterdam Europoort area, co-owned by ESSO, BP, and Aramco. The terminal handles over 35 million cubic meters of crude oil annually, representing a quarter of the total throughput in the Europoort region. The oil is stored in 33 tanks with a combined capacity of 2.75 million cubic meters and transported via pipelines to domestic and international clients. With approximately 300 tankers docking annually, planning, maintenance, and safety are critical pillars of its operations.

Transitioning to an ISPS-Compliant Access Control System

The 15-year collaboration between Team Terminal and Nsecure began with the need for a new access registration system. The previous system was outdated and unsupported, causing operational inefficiencies. At the same time, the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security), an amendment to the SOLAS convention, mandated stricter security measures to protect ships and port facilities from potential terrorist threats.

“Nsecure was already a trusted partner within our network. A reference visit to another international tank terminal demonstrated the added value of their systems and their compliance with critical security standards,” explains Irene Kolditz, Facility & Security Coordinator at Team Terminal.

Advancing Safety and Efficiency

Following the implementation of Nsecure’s new access control system, Team Terminal identified additional measures to enhance safety and efficiency, including:

• Camera surveillance and perimeter detection for improved security.
• The integration of Dataclient workflow management software to digitize access processes for employees, visitors, and suppliers.

The use of Dataclient has enabled streamlined communication and documentation, with digital dossiers storing personal data, certifications, and required documents. These dossiers are accessible when needed, such as during site entry, ensuring smooth operations and compliance.

“With these integrated solutions, we’ve gained greater and clearer insights into our business processes. The systems make us more efficient by reducing paper usage and minimizing reliance on multiple information sources. The visitor, contractor, and supplier registration processes now automatically include the required documents and certifications, ensuring compliance with international safety standards and GDPR,” says Kolditz
